For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us; prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.
Romans 12:4-8 (NRSV)
This passage from Romans recognizes and celebrates our differences while reminding us that we are one body in Christ. Each week, we come together to worship in one of the grandest churches in the world not only to give thanks to God for our talents and treasures, but also to ask for the awareness of how to be of service to God, to our church and to each other.
There is a strong love for God and a worshipping community here at the Cathedral and in the Congreation, where many seek to be closer to God and, through that process, want to be close to others who have the same desires. As a result, many have found ways to serve God through giving of their time, talent and treasure to enhance the life of the Congregation.
Please let us know how we can help you to reveal your talents so that we all delight in your gift from God, by contacting the appropriate Committee leaders.
Nevertheless, there is always more to do. We need more acolytes, more ushers and more people to assist Cathedral Community Cares. We need more volunteers to staff the Welcoming Table, to help serve food at the Second Sunday gatherings and to be involved in the many activities of the Mission & Outreach Committee.
We also need your financial support. As you give more, we can do more. God has been so good to us to provide us with great liturgy and caring clergy, but only you can provide the resources to continue to support the Congregation in its ministries to each of us, to the Cathedral and to the wider community outside the Cathedral. We have provide support to Carpenter's Kids (helping orphaned children in Tanzania attend school), helped with hospitality and welcome to visitors, tourists and seekers, provided educational and spiritual formation programs, and volunteered for ministries impacting Congregational, Cathedral, Diocesan and New York City life and work.
Please consider filling out a Pledging Commitment Card and bring it to a Sunday service for the offertory or send to the Congregation office. Then, we will send you envelopes to use for your weekly offerings (please make your checks payable to "The Congregation of St. Saviour") which help the Congregation's operating budget directly.
